One question that I am often asked… “Should I have “Botox” or permanent makeup done first?”
There are many myths out there, but from a permanent makeup artists perspective the answer is most certainly “Permanent Makeup before Botulinum Toxin”.
Botulinum Toxin is a highly popular and well known treatment that is designed to smooth wrinkles and prevent deeper lines forming by temporarily relaxing the muscles.
The Botulinum Toxin injection temporarily prevents nerve signals from reaching the muscle and, as a result, the muscle relaxes. As the muscle relaxes, the skin smooths out and therefore alters the movement and position of the brow.
Having permanent makeup done during this stage may result in your brows being tattooed onto the skin whilst it is in an unnatural position.
Furthermore as the Botulinum Toxin starts to wear off, the muscle activity returns and the skin will return to its natural position.
So in essence, I would always recommend having your permanent makeup done when your brows are in their natural position.
In addition, if you have had Botox it is advisable to wait until the Botox has worn off and that you allow two weeks prior to your next appointment.
