Permanent Make Up – FAQ’s

Below I have tried to anticipate a few questions you might have about Permanent makeup. If you still have questions I would be happy to answer them and you can contact me using the form on the contact page or calling  01634 730877.

Your brows are draw on with a makeup pencil using special measuring techniques to ensure that the design is both suitable to your face shape and your expectations.  Until you are completely happy with the shape that has been created the tattoo process will not begin!!

Using the Nouveau Intelligent machine specifically designed for permanent makeup,  pigment is gently applied to the skin.  Clients refer to the feeling as a vibration rather than pain.  I ensure that the minimum amount of discomfort is felt.  Your treatment normally takes about two hours.  This can vary from person to person depending on each individual requirement.

A topical anaesthetic is used when needed to help numb the areas to be treated. This helps to alleviate any minor discomfort you may experience during the procedure. Everyone has their own unique level of pain tolerance. Some people feel that certain areas of the face are more sensitive than others, so special emphasis is put on making the client as comfortable as possible. A variety of topical anaesthetics are on hand to ensure that your procedure is as pain-free as possible.

During the consultation process colours are discussed in detail to ensure that the correct colour pigment is chosen to suit your skin  & hair colour. Skin tone is often categorised according to the Fitzpatrick skin type scale which ranges from very fair (skin type I) to very dark (skin type VI).
You should be prepared for the colour intensity to be significantly sharper and darker immediately after the treatment. This will subside and become lighter as the skin heals. This process can take up to 10 days. A comprehensive A4 aftercare sheet is given explaining how to look after your permanent makeup following your procedure.

Permanent makeup usually lasts 12–18 months depending on your lifestyle. Certain products can also effect your permanent makeup. Sun/sunbeds can have an effect on the results during the immediate healing stages and can prematurely fade your permanent makeup. We recommend that you leave 4-6 weeks between your final “perfecting re-evaluation” procedure and your holiday. A total block SPF cream is recommended to prolong the life of your permanent makeup.

I would never perform a treatment that is too dramatic or trendy. The idea is to enhance rather than change your features. Colours are chosen to compliment your skin tone, hair and eye colour.

Tattoo pigments have been used for thousands of years and reactions are very rare. Nouveau Contour pigments are of the highest grade and are hypoallergenic. However we do always advise a patch test.

The strictest sterilisation procedures are adhered to at all times. A new, single use disposable, sterile needle is used for your complete safety. All procedures conform to the British and European Health and Safety standards

I have a large portfolio of before & after clients as well as testimonials. Testimonials and pictures can also be found on my Facebook page.

It is important to remember that permanent make-up is a “low” not a “no” maintenance treatment. As a guide, it could be anything between one to three years before a new treatment is required, although refresher colour boosts are recommended for maintenance during this time.

Once the colour starts to change/fade/lose definition you will know that you are ready for your refresher colour boost.

This varies from person to person because skin type, diet, genetics and environmental factors can all contribute to how long the pigments will be retained in the skin. For instance, sun bed use and sun exposure have a bearing on the pigment retention as well as some “medical” facial products but this can be prevented with proper protection.

You can usually go about your daily routine immediately but some clients experience some swelling and redness which normally subsides within 48 hours. The colour will be approximately 40% darker and the area may be dry and flaky for 3-7 days after the treatment.

A full and comprehensive “after care” leaflet is explained and given to you following your treatment.

The full list of our services and prices are on our website. Permanent makeup is not inexpensive, but it can be priceless. It has been estimated that the savings in daily makeup is about £300 per year, and in time that you may save 380 hours per year. Most people don’t get permanent makeup to save money, they do it for convenience and to know that they always look their best. If you compare other non-surgical procedures such as Botox or wrinkle fillers it gives you a good idea of the value of permanent makeup. For about the same cost as some Botox or filler, which may last only 3-6 months, you will get permanent makeup that lasts for years and saves you time every day.

People with sensitive skin are pleased with permanent make up because there is less chance of a reaction to the pigment than there is of a reaction or sensitivity to traditional make up products. A patch test and a full medical questionnaire is completed prior to all permanent makeup procedures.

It’s possible that your eyes could be a little watery after the treatment. As a precaution, we recommend that anyone having an eye treatment should where possible have someone to drive them home.

Please note that contact lens wearers will be requested to remove contact lenses for the treatment and to not wear for next 48 hours. Please remember to bring your glasses.

Yes I have clients that you can talk to as well as seeing photographs of their permanent makeup. When a client has had a procedure I do ask if they would be happy to speak to anyone who is thinking about having it done. This is part of the many questions on the necessary paperwork that are completed prior to treatment.

A permanent makeup procedure is a two-part process. The initial treatment and then the “perfecting” re-evaluation normally 8-10 weeks later. This cost of the treatment includes both procedures.

We offer discounted colour boost rates from 6 – 18 months after the initial treatment. It is important to remember that permanent make-up is a “low” not a “no” maintenance treatment. Colour boosts are required to maintain definition and colour.
